Description

The "SLA Status Tab" shows the settings for thresholds for Service Level Agreements (SLAs). For example, a company may provide an SLA of uptime of 99.99%, meaning for the lifetime of a service, there will only be 0.01% of downtime. Taking the example further, if a web host offers 99.99% uptime each year, this translates to 364.9635 days of uptime per year and 0.0365 days of downtime or about 53 minutes.

An SLA Status Warning or Down condition is triggered when a threshold is met, and not always when a watch item fails, because the thresholds a are based on a running calculation of a percentage failure.

Difference between Alarm and SLA Status

If you want to be informed when your site goes down, we recommend setting an Alarm. SLA Status is primarily used for monitoring downtime and setting thresholds to be informed when a level of downtime has been reached. Status is governed by a percentage of failure or an absolute number of failures.

Best Practices

SLA Status is primarily used for monitoring Service Level Agreements with ISPs, hosting companies or other parties. It is useful for being informed when a level of downtime has been reached.

SLA Status downtime is calculated for all statistics gathered for one Watch Item. Unlike the alarm settings, SLA Status is used for measuring the lifetime of a monitor.

IMPORTANT: Once a Warning or Down condition is triggered, configured actions are repeated until statistics are reset or the action is removed.

Because of these differences, in most monitoring situations, it is recommended that SLA status not be used for the triggering or resetting of alerts, although these options are made available.
