Summary

  • This step-by-step guide is for the installation of WebWatchBot v7.x.
  • WebWatchBot v7.x requires the pre-installation of SQL Server 2005, 2008 or 2012 (any sub-version, e.g. Express, Standard, etc.)
  • There are two installation packages for WebWatchBot v7.x:
    • WebWatchBot7.0WithSQLServer.exe - detects and assists with the installation of SQL Server 2008 Express, a free version of SQL Server from Microsoft. NOTE: Download and install this version if you DO NOT HAVE SQL SERVER ALREADY INSTALLED.
    • WebWatchBot7.0.exe - that assumes SQL Server 2005, 2008, or 2012 is already installed.

Before you Begin

  • If upgrading: check the Windows user account assigned to the WebWatchBot service ("WWBServer"): Control Panel -> Admistrative Tools -> Services, "WWBServer", open its properties, select the "Log On" tab. After installation, you will want to set the service (WWBServer) to use this Windows user account again, as the installer will reset it back to "Local SYSTEM".

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

  1. Locate the WebWatchBot installation zip file downloaded from our website.

  2. Unzip the file to your hard drive, and double-click on the file named "WebWatchBot7.0.exe" or "WebWatchBot7.0WithSQLServer.exe"

  3. NOTE: Setup will detect if prerequisites are not installed and install them now. For example, if SQL Server is not detected, and you have downloaded and are installing "WebWatchBot7.0WithSQLServer.exe", the SQL Server Installation must be completed before WebWatchBot can be installed. A number of installation instructions for SQL Server 2008 exist on the Internet for your reference.

  4. The setup program should start within a few seconds and display the "Welcome" screen:

  5. Click the "Next" button. The "License Agreement" screen will appear:

  6. Click the "Next" button. The "Destination Program Folder" screen will appear:

    1. Either accept the default location for the program files, or select a new location of where WebWatchBot's program files will be located. It is highly recommended that a local disk drive be specified as selecting a network drive will affect program performance.
    2. Either accept the default location for the data directory, or select a new location of where WebWatchBot's data files will be located.
      The default location is recommended by Microsoft as standard.
      Data files include: logs, saved output, and other supporting data files. Consult the WebWatchBot system requirements and system configurator for potential disk usage.
      It is highly recommended that a local disk drive be specified as selecting a network drive will affect program performance.
  7. Click "Next" to continue. The "Database Server" screen will appear:

    1. Database server that you are installing to - Enter the name of the SQL Server instance setup should use to install the WebWatchBot database.
      If the SQL Server instance is on the same machine you are installing WebWatchBot on, enter "(local).
      If you are specifying a SQL Server 2005/2008/2012 instance, you will need to specify the machine name, \ (backslash) then the instance name, e.g. "SERVER\production".
    2. Connect using - Select Windows authentication or SQL Server authentication. NOTE: The user must have permission to create a database, tables, stored procedures, etc. If the installation fails, consider installing again and select a different authentication method or a user with higher privelidge.
    3. Name of database catalog (Recommended: WebWatchBot) - Either accept the default database name of "WebWatchBot" or enter the name of the database. If the database already exists from a previous version, it will be automatically upgraded for the latest version.

  8. Click "Next" to continue. The "Logon Information" screen will appear:

    NOTE: This is a new installation screen added to WebWatchBot v7.x. You must specify a user account to be used to log on the WebWatchBot service (WWBServer) and run the IIS application pool added for WebWatchBot Online.
    1. User name - Enter the Windows user account name, in the form of DOMAIN\Username. For the domain, you can use the name of the domain you are on OR the machine name. NOTE: The user account must have "Log On Service" right enabled.
    2. Password - Enter the password for the user account
    3. New User Information - Click the button to add a new user. NOTE: The currently logged in user installing WebWatchBot must have the right to add a new user.

  9. Click "Next" to continue. The "Ready To Install the Application" screen will appear:

  10. Click "Install" to continue. Setup will being installing WebWatchBot.

  11. If an error occurs during installation, please contact ExclamationSoft Support

  12. Once the installation completes successfully, the following screen will appear:

  13. Launching WebWatchBot 7.x will start "WebWatchBot Manager", a windows application for configuring your monitoring. To launch "WebWatchBot Online", a web application for configuring your monitoring, click the "Start Menu", "All Programs", "WebWatchBot 7", "WebWatchBot Online".

  3. If your company policy restricts network/Internet access by user account, you should consider changing the user account used by the WebWatchBot service to log on. By default, WebWatchBot uses the local SYSTEM account which may not have access to network/Internet resources. Refer to the following KB article.
